The 5 Best Camera Drones for Any Skill Level

Drones are slowly taking over the skies, at least when it comes to photography, videography, and other related activities. With so many to choose from, however, how exactly do you tell which is the best quadcopter drone fit for your skill and needs? Here’s a quick guide.

We understand that not everyone knows how to pilot a drone, which makes it all the more important for you to choose one that fits your skill level. There are many quadcopter reviews out there detailing almost every spec and feature of certain drones, but most of these don’t really lay down the specifics necessary for you to determine if it is the best choice for your particular skill level. This is where our list will be helpful.

We’ve narrowed it down to include some of the drones we think are the most user-friendly for all skill levels.  Our hope is for this post to show you the bestselling camera drones over the recent months and help make your shopping a lot easier.

DJI Phantom 2 Vision+

DJI Phantom 2 Vision Plus

The DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ is arguably the best aerial photography quadcopter out on the market to date. This drone takes features and performance to greater heights—to put it simply, it’s a better version of the Phantom 2 Vision.

This unit carries its own integrated camera system along with a built-in gimbal with 3-axis electronic stabilization that does away with the shaky footage the original Phantom 2 Vision suffered from. It comes packed with tech, including Wi-Fi and GPS capability, and a fully stable 14MP HD camera that can capture videos at 1080p/30 or 1080/60i.

What makes the DJI Phantom Vision 2+ a great drone is it’s easy to set up and is easy to pilot. It’s fun to fly, has a great design, and a respectable battery life for its class (max flight time of 25 minutes). It can fly at a speed of about 35 miles per hour and at an altitude of 900 feet. The drone also comes with a live view feature via a dedicated mobile app, as well as other functions such as "Return-to-Home" and "No Fly Zone".

One downside of the Phantom Vision 2+ is its price—just like its altitude reach—is high. For its perfect blend of simplicity and features, however, it’s definitely worth the money. Whether you’re a pro or a beginner, the Phantom Vision 2+ is definitely one of the bestselling camera drones worth considering.

The camera for this model is a step up from the one in earlier models by Parrot. The F2.2 fish-eye lens provides a 180-degree angle view and comes with a 14MP sensor. The Bebop Drone comes with an onboard computer 8x more powerful than the one on AR.Drone 2.0. Its navigation system features a Parrot P7 dual-core CPU, quad-core GPU, and 8GB of Flash memory.

The drone can capture photos and videos at 1080p full HD resolution, which you can easily digitally pan and zoom. Shots are stabilized on three axes, but could do better if the camera was put on a gimbal instead of on the front. This move by Parrot, however, probably helped keep the costs down and the drone light.

The Parrot Bebop Drone has a maximum speed of 25 miles per hours and a max altitude of 200 meters. The biggest drawback, however, is its battery that lasts only an average of 10 minutes.
Overall, you get what you pay for and a little more.

Blade 350 QX3

When it comes to talk about the best drone with camera, the Blade 350 QX3 manages to fly into the conversation, and with good reason. This model has Blade sticking to its reputation of delivering in terms of user-friendliness.

The 350 QX3 stands out because it provides the perfect platform for your GoPro to take epic aerial shots. Its advanced SAFE (Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope) technology allows for two flight modes specially programmed for capturing stunning aerial photos and videos. Both modes feature self-leveling and uses GPD and altitude sensors for a more stable hover.

Blade 350 QX3 Drone

This drone is ideal for pilots of any skill level because of its two modes. The Smart mode is ideal for beginners, which allows for drone flight in whatever direction using the control stick. This stick relativity feature allows you to move the unit in any direction, regardless of the quad’s nose or if it’s spinning in flight.

The aerial photography mode, meanwhile, is for more experienced pilots. It allows the 350 QX3 to respond to controls like a conventional RC helicopter, but without stick relativity. In this mode, the stick relativity feature is turned off, which gives you more control over the unit’s hover. This then allows for a steeper bank and pitch angles, making it easy to pull off action shots.

The Blade 350 QX3 comes with a 16MP camera and a battery life that lasts 10-15 minutes. Flight speed clocks in at 20 m/s.

Walkera QR X350

The Walkera QR X350, when it first flew, took aim at DJI with the hopes of becoming the best quadcopter drone. The China-based company Walkera has made it their mission to conquer the market.

For less than $500, you get a drone that has GPS, action camera capability, a decent flight time, and easy navigation via the Devo7 controller. The Devo7 transmitter makes piloting so much easier—a feature near the level of the DJI Phantom quadcopter series.

The drone’s durability is commendable, which makes it ideal for beginners who might have a hard time steering properly—albeit with a relatively steep learning curve. An altitude sensor lets the drone hover in place, depending on user specifications. This is ideal for capturing videos and photos. The one-key Return-to-Home feature also does a lot in making the RC more user-friendly.

One disappointment with the Walkera QR X350, though, is its lack of camera. This opens the opportunity for users to buy an incompatible or not the most appropriate camera. While its features are fairly decent, it still falls short, especially when compared to the DJI Phantom quadcopters. But then again, it’s a good choice if your main reason for buying is more on flying a drone rather than taking aerial shots.
